MDE-LIO Offers Mini-Grants for Activities, Training, and Support

Monday, November 03, 2008

The Michigan Department of Education, Low Incidence Outreach (MDE-LIO) offers mini-grants for activities, training, and support for families as they impact the lives of children and young adults who are visually impaired and/or deafblind.

We are very pleased to announce the opportunity to develop innovative projects, to replicate successful practices, or to enrich and expand curriculum in ways that directly and positively affect services to students with a visual impairment and/or students who are deafblind.

Grants up to $5,000.00 are awarded through a competitive review. Further, grant reviewers are looking for proposals which incorporate exemplary practices for educating students with a visual impairment.

Grant applications are accepted ongoing throughout the year. Support from the MDE-LIO is provided throughout the process. It is designed to be “user-friendly”, and the application does not require that the applicant be a skilled grant-writer, but the applicant must be able to develop a budget and explain the goals and objectives of the project that the grant application is for. All that is required is a good idea, a documented need, and a solid implementation plan! Research and data on promising practices will assist in grants being awarded. So start thinking about your proposals now.
